The paper cannot be treatment focused, nor should it focus on prevention or eradication. The parasite/parasitic disease you choose cannot be one discussed in class. A list of parasites that will be discussed in lecture is posted here. This is a firm rule; please do not ask for exceptions.
A list of possible topics is here. In addition, I strongly suggest you do not write a paper on any flukes, as the life cycles of most flukes does not vary much from the ones discussed in class. Balamuthia mandrillaris, Vandellia cirrhosa and Cymothoa exigua also do not make good topics. If you are having a hard time picking a topic, there are a number of parasites of bees, parasitic nematodes of plants, some parasitoids, some insects that infect animals and some nematodes that infect raccoons and other animals that make good topics. Also you make use topics like Pediculus capitis and Sarcoptes scabiei .

This report will require you to find at least five primary research articles. Most people will need more than five references. You many also use review articles or text books. You may not use web sites of any kind; this includes the CDC, WHO, Wikipedia as references for the paper. If you do not know what a primary research article is, please contact me.

The report must be 7-10 double spaced pages. Please use standard word formatting (1 inch margins, numbers at the bottom right side of the page, 12pt times new roman font). You may use section headings, such as life cycle or host response, but do not space between paragraphs or between headings and paragraphs. Use in page citations (author(s) last name and year). Please remember in scientific writing you may not use quotes. All material must be re-written in your own words and you must cite the source where you found the information. Your literature cited section will be in the format used by the biology department. See “how to write a research paper” on canvas for the citation formatting requirements. You do not have to have a cover page. Simply type the title and your name on the first page. If you do have a cover page, it does not count towards the page limit. Your literature cited should be on the last page and does not count as part of the 7-10 pg total. Any figures (not required) do not count towards the page limit. An example paper is posted here.
The rubric that will be used to grade your paper is posted.

In addition I would also need 5 abstract of the articles you’ll be using by July 20th 2021: “
You must upload a word or pdf file with 5 abstracts and 5 properly formatted citations. The abstracts must be for primary research articles. Simply copy and paste the abstract from the article. The purpose of this assignment is for everyone to make sure there is enough information available for you to write a 7-10 pg paper.”

In depth parasite report: You may choose any eukaryotic parasite/parasitic disease and write a literature based review on the biology of the parasite/parasitic disease.
