You contextualized the social problem within systems thinking and have begun to tease apart the various elements related to the social problem. You have also started to consider how to reform the social problem and address diversity and oppression within that reform effort. The change aspect is the essence of the work in this course, as you are thinking through how you might intervene for the purpose of systems change. Finally, you began exposing some of the limitations with ecological systems theory. Payne (2021) notes that “Although ecological systems theory seeks to provide both social change and development and psychological models of practice, it leans towards maintaining social cohesion rather than achieving more radical social change.” In this regard, it is important to think through the feasibility and limitations of the intervention we are doing within a systems framework.
For this assignment, continue with your social problem of focus and the population that it affects. Be sure to post your initial response to this week’s discussion question before you begin this assignment—the work that you do there will help you to address the grading criteria in this assignment.
Instructions
Address the following; the nine main bullet points correspond to the scoring guide criteria:
Describe a social problem that needs reform and a specific population affected by it.Provide statistics to help illustrate the extent of the problem.
Consider refining some of the thinking that you did in the Unit 1 discussions.
Take into account the geographic location and age range of your population.

Explain how specific system elements impact a given population.Conceptualize the social problem within systems thinking; describe and define the system at micro, mezzo, and macro levels, specifically focusing on the elements involved that create or are designed to address the problem. If, for instance, you were looking at the health care system (affordability, access, disparities) in relationship to your social problem and population, you might examine the political elements (officials, policy, influence of power), financial elements (lobbying, pharma), and physical access to care, discussing where systems change is needed.

Note whether each element of the system supports or impedes progress on this issue and whether it supports or oppresses the population impacted by the problem. What efforts are already in place (people, organizations, policies) to address the issue?

Analyze how a specific oppressive element or injustice impacts a given population.Consider, for example, how drug laws and policies have led to excessive incarceration.
To analyze is to break something down into its parts and examine the parts carefully and in detail; the goal is to identify the essential components, to learn what they do and how they relate to one another.

Explain what an anti-oppressive, multicultural sensitivity approach would look like in addressing systems change.Describe how you would approach a change initiative from an anti-oppressive, multicultural sensitivity perspective.

Propose a systems-focused intervention that would begin to address the issue.Describe the intervention in detail. What will your approach to change look like?

Provide any relevant and current evidence for your approach. If you are proposing something that has not been done before, how does your proposal relate to the existing evidence?

Identify the limitations of your intervention and challenges you anticipate.

Write content clearly and logically, following the rules of grammar, usage, and mechanics.”Grammar” refers to the basic rules for how sentences are constructed and how words combine to make sentences (such as word order, case, and tense).
“Usage” refers to correct word choice and phrasing, particularly with regard to the meanings of words and phrases.
“Mechanics” refers to correct use of capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.
Write in the third person, adhering to conventions of academic tone.

Organize content so ideas flow logically with smooth transitions.
Support main points, assertions, arguments, conclusions, or recommendations with relevant and credible evidence.
Apply APA style and formatting to scholarly writing. This includes the formatting of the title page, page numbers, margins, use of in-text headers, appropriate in-text citations, and references page.

Additional Requirements
Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 points.
Page length: 4–5 double-spaced content pages plus title and reference pages. An abstract is not required.
Sources: Six scholarly sources, cited and referenced in current edition APA style and format.
ReferencePayne, M. (2021).
