Follow APA style.
Introduction/Literature Review (75 points)
You will write a rationale that will be the introduction to your entire proposal.
Be sure to start broadly by describing the general issue or problem to the reader. Why should they care? Why is it topic/idea important? Finding specific statistics or evidence from your empirical articles/meta-analyses is a great way to add legitimacy to the rationale.
As with any introduction, make sure you give the reader a sense of where your paper is going without explicitly stating it. That is, I do not want to see the words “I will be talking about X, Y, and Z” in your paper. You need to lead your reader to what you are covering; do not push. If you are looking for an example, look at the first 1-2 paragraphs of any empirical article; all behavioral science articles start off with a rationale.
You will choose at least 3 empirical articles, found through the SRJC library or Google Scholar.
Be sure to confirm that your articles are, in fact, empirical and peer-reviewed. One good way to determine this is to look for a method and results section. If the article is missing those, it is NOT empirical.
Also, for your literature review, avoid using meta-analyses. Meta-analyses, however, are good options for your rationale.
You will analyze and summarize the most pertinent information from these articles.
Author(s) and year
Method
Main results
What the article failed to address.
You will order the articles from least closely related to your topic to most closely related to your topic.
Think of the filter metaphor.
Lastly, you will add your Research Questions and Hypotheses at the bottom of this section. This is what will lead into your Method Section.
Method Section (40 points)
Participants
You will outline the sample of participants that you will use in your study.
Describe the demographic information (i.e., gender, ethnicity, age, education, income, etc.) of your potential sample and from where you will be recruiting the sample (i.e., community, Universities, hospitals, etc.).
You should also mention if your participants will be compensated for participation, and how they will be compensated.
Measures
You will describe how the variables in your study will be measured.
If you are using a previously standardized and published measure, cite this measure and describe it.
Be specific—including the reliability scores.
If you are creating a measure to assess a variable in your study, you should describe (in detail) the measure and attach it to your submission.
Additionally, if you are creating an independent variable that is an intervention, for example, you will describe the intervention in this section.
Procedure
Outline the specific steps (i.e., procedure) of your study.
Research Design
You will state the type of research design you are utilizing for your study, and specifically how your study adheres to the guidelines for that particular type of research design.
You will include the following headings: Participants, Materials (or Measures), Procedure, and Research Design.
Note: Your method section will look very similar to all of the empirical journal articles you have read, except yours will be written in the FUTURE TENSE (since you have not yet conducted the study).
Discussion Section (30 points)
Discuss the strengths and limitations of your proposed research study.
All research studies are important, but no research study is perfect.
Acknowledge at least 2 strengths and 2 limitations of your study.
For example, are there any threats to the internal or external validity of your study that were unavoidable?
Based on your proposal, what direction should future research take?
What questions are still unanswered for this specific topic?
Reference List (15 points)
You will create an APA style reference list that includes all outside sources, including articles for your rationale, literature review, measures (maybe), and discussion (maybe).
APA Style (15 points)
You will ensure that your whole paper is in APA style.

Title Page (10 points) Must include the Running head, Title, Your Name, Submission Date, and Page Number.
