Even though a certification is not required for nurse educators, getting the certification would signify distinction and value in nurse education, and can probably give a higher compensation in the employment market as well as provide larger opportunities for work.
There are several advantages in becoming a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) through the National League for Nursing (NLN), a national organization for faculty nurses and leaders in nurse education. The NLN is centered on “its core values of caring, integrity, diversity, and excellence” and has been endorsing excellence in nursing education for more than a century “through faculty development programs, networking opportunities, testing and assessment, nursing research grants, and public policy initiatives” (NLN, 2021). The NLN has developed ethical principles in nursing education that aim to benefit and foster environments that stimulate academic and professional nursing integrity, and ultimately, improving and enriching patient care and great outcomes. The NLN offers the only certified nurse educator (CNE) exam, which was originally developed to raise “the visibility and status of the academic nurse educator role as an advanced professional practice discipline with a defined practice setting” (Bastable, 2019).
This is definitely an avenue that I hope to pursue in my professional endeavor in the near future as this is something I have always wanted to do. I first became interested in nursing education when I was in nursing school and had an amazing experience with a CNE. My plans in achieving this merit include to first finish this MSN program in nursing education, and then to start focusing on research and scholarship involvement, which will enhance my ability to fulfill and collaborate in this advanced environment. In the last twenty years of my nursing career, I have gained extensive clinical experience and leadership skills. According to Godshall (2017), nurse educators who have clinical expertise have the ability to prepare students who are knowledgeable, skilled, assertive, and self-confident nurses. Despite this, I would like to start my journey as an educator in a nursing university or in a clinical/hospital setting in which I would educate patients. In the meantime, I am attempting to continuously build up my skills at the home care and hospice agency that I work at by teaching new nurses at our agency about proper documentation, what entails successful patient visits, and general nursing skills. Overall, I am always looking at ways to improve my proficiencies, expand my knowledge, contribute to the overall nursing field, and ultimately, I hope to be able to educate future nurses who will impact the lives and save many patients.

References
Bastable, S.
