{"id":24950,"date":"2021-07-27T21:19:55","date_gmt":"2021-07-27T21:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/papersspot.com\/blog\/2021\/07\/27\/respond-to-the-forum-by-answering-the-questions-highlighted-within-the-reading-below-remember-to\/"},"modified":"2021-07-27T21:19:55","modified_gmt":"2021-07-27T21:19:55","slug":"respond-to-the-forum-by-answering-the-questions-highlighted-within-the-reading-below-remember-to","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/papersspot.com\/blog\/2021\/07\/27\/respond-to-the-forum-by-answering-the-questions-highlighted-within-the-reading-below-remember-to\/","title":{"rendered":"Respond to the forum by answering the questions highlighted within the reading below.\u00a0*Remember to"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Respond to the forum by answering the questions highlighted within the reading below.\u00a0*Remember to follow the discussion guidelines.* <br \/>One hundred years ago it was common for births and deaths to occur at home where a number of generations of a family usually lived together.\u00a0 It was highly unusual for someone to grow up without having gone through the experience of seeing a family member die.\u00a0 Death was a more familiar presence then.\u00a0 Although the average person sees over 13,000 deaths on television and the movies by age 21, real illness and dying are usually relegated to hospitals.\u00a0 (Although that is changing a little with hospices \u2014 see below.)\u00a0 It is rare now for someone to have seen anyone die.\u00a0 Family members tend to die alone in hospitals.\u00a0 The \u201cmessy\u201d work is taken care of for us. <br \/>Why are we so afraid of dying?\u00a0 Is this separation of ourselves from the reality of death the cause or the symptom of our denial of death? <br \/>Another factor may be that America is a society that values youth \u2014 and many of the symbols of youth are positive (progress, learning, risk-taking, progressive, etc.).\u00a0 Another important aspect of the American denial of death is the lessening of the hold of traditional religion.\u00a0 Most religions promise believers the reward of a good life after death.\u00a0 <br \/>Is this &#8220;reward&#8221; another way we deny the reality, messiness, and sadness that accompany death?\u00a0 Most importantly, what does this denial and subsequent fear of death do to us when a loved one or we, ourselves, are facing death?\u00a0 What are some other ways we deny death? <br \/>Sources: <br \/>Becker, E.
