Thank you <br \/> Transference and Countertransference <br \/> Being a nurse practitioner requires a professional to know about the underlying triggers for both transference and countertransference. In such a case, with several key elements in mind, one can detect countertransference and understand how it can be overcome to improve the client’s outcomes and ensure the essential triggers do not adversely affect the quality of care provided. Dealing with the phenomena is vital for creating the proper foundation to improve patient outcomes. <br \/> When it comes to specific topic areas that have the potential to trigger countertransference, there are several insights to offer. First, there is an example when a patient looks like or has mannerisms of my family member. From both perspectives, in either a positive or a negative manner, it can trigger countertransference. Second, there are situations when the patient needs a longer time to adapt to the session, which requires a provider to expand. However, longer sessions can trigger countertransference, which can affect how a provider reacts to the process of the session. Essentially, the triggers for countertransference are unconscious responses that can surface when people are placed in different situations. The important thing is that there might be some triggers that I have not recognized yet. <br \/> Pondering upon trigger identification and potential reactions to manage countertransference, it is crucial to speak about a three-step process. The first step focuses on the increase of personal awareness of the countertransference occurrence. The phase includes several approaches. A provider needs to ensure the awareness of own countertransference and detect the client’s transference from the start of the session (TPC Leadership, 2014). The second step is to reflect. Engaging in self-reflection, a therapist develops the degree of supervision that increases self-insight, which often translates into reducing coach anxiety. The third step is to develop techniques that will help you detect countertransference triggers from the spot (TPC Leadership, 2014). Following these steps, a provider can address personal triggers and deal with countertransference from its initial stages. <br \/> In psychoanalytic theory, transference and countertransference are defined through the scope of several key concepts. Essentially, the classical concept of transference is exposed through verbal and nonverbal manifestations in the hours, along with the patient’s direct and implicit communicative efforts to influence the analyst in a certain direction (Kernberf, 2016). In turn, the psychoanalytic theory suggests that countertransference is the analyst’s moment-to-moment emotional reaction to the patient along with material the patient offers (Kernberf, 2016). In other words, transference is the phenomenon occurring in the context of a patient projecting certain feelings concerning another person onto the provider. In contrast, in countertransference, a provider reacts to particular visual or other triggers associated with the patient or one’s story (Fritscher, 2020). In mind, psychoanalytic theory provides the foundation for both concepts and shows how they can disrupt the therapeutic process. <br \/> Considering the above, I have experienced several countertransference instances when dealing with patients who looked like my family members. Besides, when the session takes longer, the quality of therapy decreases. In turn, when addressing transference, it is crucial to be aware of triggers, reflect upon them, and improve self-insights that will reduce coach anxiety. Finally, the psychoanalytic theory offers an in-depth understanding of transference and countertransference, thus showing that the concepts play a major role in determining the effectiveness of the care provided.\u00a0 <br \/> References <br \/> Fritscher, L.
