Each student is required to choose a particular work (that is either covered in class or represented in the text) and produces an annotated bibliography, consisting of four scholarly\/refereed secondary sources, not to include the textbook, encyclopedia (reference) articles, or biographies.\u00a0\uf0b7Sources: Each secondary source should\u00a0be documented\u00a0according to MLA (Modern Language Association) standards. Students should use Times New Roman font, 12 points. Websites such as Wikipedia, SparkNotes, BookRags, E-notes, etc. should not be used. Also, book reviews, overviews, and abstracts are prohibited.\u00a0Instead, students should consult the library\u2019s catalog and electronic databases, such as MLA Bibliography, JSTOR(Journal Storage), ProQuest, and Humanities Full-text for\u00a0PDFversions of secondary sources. (Please do not use HTML versions, as they do not provide page numbers.) All annotations should be double-spaced and\u00a0written in complete sentences.\u00a0\uf0b7Annotations: In addition to being 150-200 words in length, each annotation should include a summary (80%) and an assessment\/reflection (20%) (see handout). Note: First-person (I, me, my, mine) and second-person (you, you’re) should not be used.\u00a0\uf0b7Presentation: Each student will present his\/her bibliography to the class in a five-seven (5-7) minute oral presentation, which will highlight the most significant, useful, and\/or interesting sources. The focus should be placed on various analyses of the selected literary work, not the author\u2019s life.\u00a0\uf0b7Handout: In addition to submitting the bibliography to the instructor, presenters must prepare a one-page original handout(created by the student, in the student\u2019s own words), The student must be prepared to successfully field questions as\u00a0well. The handout must be submitted (for dissemination and screen-sharing) prior to the presentation and should 1. include a summary of the specific work being researched\u2013AB Topic2. briefly address the author\u2019s bio and other primary\u00a0works3. note key points from the presenter\u2019s research findings, including full MLA citations and brief summaries of\u00a0key points\/arguments (two-four sentences) for at least two articles.\u00a0Points will be deducted from submitted bibliographies that are not formatted correctly.\u00a0(More information on the format will be addressed in class.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
