For this essay you should use three (3) Urban Legends that you have found\/researched in order to
support a \u201csoft\u201d claim about Urban Legends generally.
You can look for things that Urban Legends seem to have in common.
You can disucss what Urban Legends do and why they exist.
You can address how Urban Legends travel or change over time.
Your \u201csoft\u201d claim should address one of these three issues. Here\u2019s an example:
\u201cWhile there are various types of Urban Legends, many deal with elements of mental
illness\u201d
You don\u2019t have to \u201cprove\u201d your claim, but all the Urban Legends you discuss or compare should
relate to it in some way so the reader can clearly see the point you are making. This is your
PURPOSE.
An \u201cA\u201d paper:
\u2022 3-4 pages of writing;
\u2022 A MLA or APA Works Cited page;
\u2022 Evidence of correct formatting;
\u2022 Correct grammar and punctuation;
\u2022 Evidence of revision.
\u00a0A Sample Structure:

Your first or \u201cIntro\u201d paragraph. You will start talking about Urban Legends generally. Maybe
mention your experience with them. Maybe make some general observations about what they do
or what they mean in a society. Maybe mention that they seem to represent our fears, or
whatever. Start vague. End this section with your soft claim. Be broad and then get specific.

For the body deal with your Urban Legends themselves. Summarize them. Compare them.
Then discuss them in relation to the soft claim you made in the first paragraph. Use quotes and
paraphrase regularly. You can choose which order to deal with your Urban Legends but make
sure to deal with them all pretty much equally. Explain. Summarize. Compare. Quote\/
Paraphrase. Tie each to your claim.

Your final paragraph should be to remind your reader of how each of the Urban Legends you
mentioned supports that soft claim you made at the beginning. Be specific. Be brief. You may
also consider using a personal anecdote of your experience with Urban Legends. And it never
hurts to remind your reader why they should care. Summarize your paper, give audience a
reason to care.
