Instead of an entitlement, per se, healthcare access and coverage is an inalienable right that America’s constitutional system implied to protect and provide for its citizens as part of its core principles. However, healthcare is a business industry inevitably subject to economic and social influences heavily centralized on market demand. In other words, there is no easy way of choosing a position about the matter; whether all Americans should have the right to equal access to healthcare, the quality of services given remains a commodity to those who can afford it at the end of the day. Instead of glossing the concept that having health coverage equates to care and guarantees a healthy population, Mason et al. (2015) argue that “healthcare access means having the ability to receive the right type of care when needed at an affordable price” (p.1).
Under the premise of protecting American consumers and enhancing the overall population health, the Patient and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA) has continuously preventing insurance companies from increasing their premiums unjustly and discriminate the type of patients to be covered. If not for enacting this legislation, most impoverished sectors of society would remain helpless and stuck from getting any form of care to say the least. In summary, the ACA’s primary purposes in healthcare consist of preventing abusive insurance practices, ensuring healthcare coverage with affordable rates, and guaranteeing health insurance coverage for the majority of the American population. A closer look at the significant milestones of the Obama Care reveals the following: (1) uninsured population with preexisting conditions could now get insurance, (2) substantial pharmaceutical discounts are now available for senior consumers, (3) mandatory insurance coverage of employees from businesses with 50 or more staff (Hall et al., 2014). In concurrence, the two main federal programs (i.e., Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)) associated with the ACA have efficiently implemented the use of health information technology (HIT) in numerous essential functions, including wide-spread outreach and increased enrollment, efficient service delivery, proper care management, communication enhancement with families, and broadening program goals for improvement (Lancaster M.,

Responsd this discussion from your classmateDISCUSSION 1The phrase “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” embody the structural foundation that makes the United States a tremendous and distinct nation worldwide.
