It is a system that<br \/> supports decision making for patients and providers. It can assist with<br \/> patient care and safety and eliminate provider bias of care. Provider<br \/> bias can decrease by sending the information to the patient as well as<br \/> provider for alerts, based on the EHR and clinical protocols. The DDS<br \/> can promote decision making and detection of at risk diagnosis based on<br \/> age, gender, and flags in the EHR. This can assist clinically and<br \/> administratively by in the EHR; send alerts and reports to improve and<br \/> inform administration to the effectiveness and efficiency of their<br \/> facility. There are positive and negatives to any type of system,<br \/> however it is important it is used in conjunction with proper clinical<br \/> and administrative thought processes and utilizing the correct evidence<br \/> and information. <br \/>Sue (2017). One way this<br \/> system is used is in a clinical setting or what\u2019s known as a clinical<br \/> decision support system (CDSS). This is beneficial to both patient and<br \/> provider by providing alerts in a EHR that will reflect items such as<br \/> medication allergies, important reminders, and other valuable<br \/> information. <br \/>Although<br \/> CDSSs can be highly beneficial it has its limitations as well, one of<br \/> them being lack of access to such a program. Not all patients will have<br \/> access to tablets, cell phones, computers, etc. and that leaves a large<br \/> gap in patients who can become engaged with CDSSs. However, one concern<br \/> that can be alleviated when it comes to CDSSs is provider bias. An<br \/> example of that is if a provider deems a patient as noncompliant due to<br \/> age, sex, race, etc. which could lead to medications and treatments<br \/> being withheld from them. With CDSSs and a system wide EHR, a patients<br \/> compliance can be objectively determined rather than subjectively. <br \/>References <br \/>Sue<br \/> (2017).
