take his blood pressure and do a finger stick. He tells you he is 52 years old, works as a mechanic, is married, and a father of three. You begin a discussion with him about his elevated blood sugar and blood pressure. Larry explains he cannot afford health insurance or medication. He said he also has a back injury, but just gets used to the pain because it is more important to have a roof over his family’s head. He said he went to the doctor once and was given a cost, but it ended up being $300 more than he thought because the doctor added on additional tests. He says now he does not go to the doctor because not knowing how much is it going to cost is too stressful. Also, he mentioned he “just can’t take the time off challenged surrounding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.At an organizational and policy level, what ideas do you have about how nurses can drive improvements in access and utilization of care, while improving quality of care, for uninsured Americans? Is it all about insurance coverage, or is there more to it in regard to root causes (social determinants)?https://ojin.nursingworld.org/MainMenuCategories/ANAMarketplace/ANAPeriodicals/OJIN/TableofContents/Vol-24-2019/No2-May-2019/Affordable-Care.html

Students
