This assignment tasks you with completing a small project based on your understanding of QUALITATIVE research methods and analysis. This assignment supports all intended learning outcomes of the module, but in particular addresses ILOs 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10. Primarily the assignment is based on fully addressing ILO 5: to demonstrate awareness of the use, value and challenges of qualitative research in tourism as a social science subject and within business settings. In undertaking this assignment, you will demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the development, use, analysis and value of qualitative research methods.The Assessment: Design a qualitative research project. <\/p>\n
Choose ONE project from the project list below and address the following points in a 2,500 word report. You must use a qualitative method, and you should try to think creatively.<\/p>\n
a) Taking the broad subject are, explain how you would frame this research (this means define a location and a sample population). <\/p>\n
b) Identify three research objectives. For each objective, explain what you want to find out.<\/p>\n
c) Outline and justify your research design and the method(s) you think would most effectively address the research objectives you have created. <\/p>\n
d) Identify any challenges you might encounter and any limitations associated with your chosen method. How might you overcome these difficulties?<\/p>\n
e) Identify likely ethical considerations of the project.<\/p>\n
f) Explain how you would analyse the data, and why.<\/p>\n
For each point (a) to (f), explain the reasons for your choices, using supporting references from the research methods literature and some subject-specific material where appropriate. Assume no resource constraints and a time limit of up to one year to complete the research. You can choose the location or context of your project. You may choose more than one method if appropriate. You should write in a report style, i.e. you can use sub-headings, bullet points, tables and figures if you want to. Include a reference list. You do not need to include a contents page or an abstract\/executive summary. <\/p>\n
