Your Signature Assignment will consist of a short paper that demonstrates the application and analysis of a main sociological theory applicable or that you may experience in your chosen field of work.
The purpose of your Signature Assignment is to allow you to apply the information you learned in SOC101 to your field of work or study. This Signature Assignment will allow you to provide meaningful examples of your learning and progress to your future employer. The Signature Assignment will demonstrate your proficiency of SLOs 1, 3, 5, and 9.

\u2022 Evaluate the changing needs of society and people, and assess the causes and components of social problems.
\u2022 Identify social structures, everyday interactions and distinguish the social construction of reality.
\u2022 Identify the significant revolutions and events that have shaped our society’s economy and evaluate the current trends and workplace diversities.

Paragraph 1: Define a sociological theory (see the list below).
Explain the theory you chose in your own words and cite in your response where you found your information. This means that you put the author and year of the publication at the end of the paragraph or sentence\/s. You also need to be sure to include the entire reference at the end of your response and include a link to the article or source.
Explain the theory so it would make sense to someone at work or at home. Do not word it like you are at a scholarly convention!
Paragraph 2\/3\/4: Explain how the theory you chose could be applied to your future career aspirations.
To do this, and to make it easy, you could answer one of the following questions:
\u2022 Conflict theory
\u25e6 How is power distributed at your workplace? Does the power distribution seem appropriate for your workplace? Why or why not, and what changes would you recommend if not? Be sure to explain who is in what role or give examples when answering this question (no names, just titles).
\u2022 Functionalism
\u25e6 In regards to your career aspirations and workplace as a whole, what parts of society function together to make the system work well for the patients or clients, and why? Justify and support your response.
\u2022 Feminist Theory
\u25e6 Are men and women treated equally in your career of choice? How is equal or unequal treatment obvious or noticeable? If there is a level of inequality, why do you think this is this occurring? Does gender even play a role anymore given the current labels?
