Write a report from this interview. This is a 70-point assignment.

Unless special permission is requested in advance and given the person you interview cannot be someone where you are currently or have been employed or in your family (such as a parent, uncle, aunt, grandparent, sibling, cousin or other relative). Because some businesses are large enough that you could interview someone in, for instance, another department just send me an e-mail if you really want to interview someone in a category above and we can talk about this.

Please keep in mind that this report can be used to get information about a job or internship that is of interest to you and/or to get you a contact at a company that is of interest to you. Please dress and act appropriately in the process of doing this report. In other words, dress to impress. Dress and act like a professional and make them see you as someone they would like to hire someday.

DUE DATE AND SUBMISSION INFORMATION: This assignment is due on Wednesday, December 1, however you can turn your assignment in any time before then. No assignments will be returned until after the due date. Please read and follow the directions – points will be deducted for not following the directions.

DIRECTIONS

1. This assignment should be typed using a 12-point font. It should be double-spaced with one-inch margins at the top, bottom and sides.

2. Please submit your assignment as well as a typed, numbered list of questions you asked/planned to ask and the “Information Page.” Your question list should include the required questions.

3. MY INTERVIEWING ADVICE: Take your list of questions with you to the interview. As you ask the questions put a mark through the question number. If the person you are interviewing answers a question you have before you ask it put a mark through it. If you ask a question they have already answered they will think you are not listening. In your notes draw a line after they have finished answering a question and then put the question number of the question you asked and their answer. After they answer the question, draw another line and then write the number of the next question you ask. This will help you know what question they were answering.

4. Some of your grade will be based on the organization and clarity of your report. Also, your use of the English language will count heavily.

5. Your assignment should be a maximum of four pages long. This does not include the cover page or your page(s) of questions or the information page.

6. Use headings, indentations, and sections to make your report easy to read.

7. Put a cover page on your paper that includes a title, your name, the date and the class name and time.

8. Some required questions are below on a separate page. In order for the reports to be consistent the required questions should be asked and included in your report in the order below. You should also ask at least three original questions of interest to you and in which you think others would have an interest. This is the minimum. Those who want higher scores will ask and report about more questions.

9. This report should not be written up in question and answer form or in outline form, but rather in paragraph form. Many points will be deducted if you do your report in either question and answer form or outline form.

10. Your report should include in the introduction information about the professional you interview (name, experience, education, career path and/or anything else you feel is relevant); why you wanted to interview this person; and information about the organization/business at which the person you interview is employed (name, years in existence, location, products or services offered and/or anything else you feel is relevant). This means you should probably know a little about the organization/business before the interview (if you really want to impress them) or you can ask the person you interview about the business.

11. The point distribution (75 points are possible if you earn the 5 bonus points)

15 – Organization, clarity, following directions (NOTE: not using, indentations and sections will cost you points)

15 – Use of the English language (spelling, grammar, punctuation, complete sentences, paragraphs)

20 – Introduction and conclusion.
