Consider your customers for your device:<\/p>\n
Users of the device<\/p>\n
Consumers of the device (not always the same people as the \u201cusers,\u201d though they may be.)<\/p>\n
Manufacturers of the device<\/p>\n
Others with a vested interest as you can identify them<\/p>\n
Each of these customers has \u201cneeds\u201d for the device. These needs are typically stated in high-level terms, as for example \u201clightweight,\u201d \u201ceasy to clean,\u201d \u201cportable,\u201d \u201cefficient,\u201d etc. <\/p>\n
Some of these needs are extremely important to the customer, and their satisfaction will be critical to product success; others are \u201cwish list\u201d or \u201cgood to have\u201d items that consumers or users might use to decide among competing devices.<\/p>\n
Your task in this \u201ccustomer needs analysis\u201d is to identify the needs of each customer constituency, and to rank them in order of importance. This information (customer identification, needs and importance rankings) forms the first part of the \u201cHouse of Quality.\u201d<\/p>\n
Write a narrative description that includes:<\/p>\n
Who are the \u201ccustomers\u201d for your design?<\/p>\n
For each customer, what needs exist to be met from your device? State these in high-level terms and justify why you believe each is important to the customer. <\/p>\n
\u201cLow cost\u201d is high-level. \u201cCost less than $10\u201d is too specific \u2013 it is on the order of a specification, which we will address later.<\/p>\n
Use the Analytical Hierarchical Process to rank all needs against each other to determine the relative importance of each. Include the AHP chart as a figure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
