The American Criminal Justice System: The Impact of Juvenile Incarceration on Life Outcomes in Adulthood.<\/p>\n
There is mass incarceration of juveniles in the US, yet a little literature review exists for this topic. I am proposing a research study on the incarceration of juveniles and the impact of incarceration on the life outcomes into adulthood. A review of literature reviewed the US incarcerates juveniles far greater than any other country. According to the research, approximately 7 million adults of 3% of the adult population are under correctional supervision (Barnert et al., 2017).<\/p>\n
It has become essential to understand the impact that incarceration of juveniles has on them later in life as adults. Primarily, the incarceration of juveniles includes young people from Hispanic or Black families living in the US. These people belong to lower socioeconomic status, and they face these kinds of trauma and barriers (Barnert et al., 2018). Incarcerated juveniles experience worse mental and physical health outcomes (Barnert et al., 2019).<\/p>\n
Moreover, the research found that the juveniles with paternal incarceration are the most disadvantaged and vulnerable (Turney, 2017). Exposure to the criminal justice system at a young age impacts the person throughout his life. Scholarly researchers are studying and developing clinical, advocacy, and policy efforts that can help reduce the impact of incarceration, such as mental health issues on juveniles (Heard-Garris et al., 2019). The people who belong to different colors or cultures are primarily at risk of incarceration, and policymakers should promote alternatives to avoid entrenchment in the justice system (Harrison et al., 2020). The Juvenile justice system has become a default for dealing with youth who defy social rules (Desai, 2019).<\/p>\n
