APA Tips<\/p>\n
Your responses to the discussion questions should be based on what you have researched on the topic. You must go beyond your personal opinion and demonstrate an understanding of the reading and course concepts. When using the work of others, you must give credit to them. To give credit, include in-text citations and a full reference to the work used. I\u2019ve included tips below, but for a more in-depth look at APA refer to the APA handbook included in the syllabus.<\/p>\n
In-text citations:<\/p>\n
To cite in-text use the author\u2019s last name and the date of publication after the sentence that you have paraphrased (put into your own words) from your resource, like this (Schmalleger, 2015).<\/p>\n
References<\/p>\n
Book Format<\/p>\n
Use this format for all books:<\/p>\n
Author, A. (date of publication). Title of book. Publisher.<\/p>\n
Just plug in the information like this:<\/p>\n
Schmalleger, F. (2015). Criminology today: An integrative introduction (7th ed.). Pearson.<\/p>\n
(Note how the title of the book is lower case, except for the first word of the title and first word after a colon. Proper nouns would also be capitalized. The title is also in italics). <\/p>\n
Journal Article: (you are expected to use the DeVry University Library)<\/p>\n
Author, A. A., Author B. B., & Author, C. C. (Year). Title of article.\u00a0Title of Journal, Volume(Issue), pages\u2013pages. https:\/\/doi.org\/XXXXXXXXXXX<\/p>\n
Websites<\/p>\n
Author, A. A. (Year).\u00a0Title of page. Website. http:\/\/xxxxx<\/p>\n
(Tip: if the website does not have an author, it may not be an academic source. Choose your resources carefully. Avoid Wikipedia, ask.com and other similar sources.<\/p>\n
If it is an academic resource and there is no author, format like this:<\/p>\n
Title of webpage (Year). Website. http:\/\/xxxxx<\/p>\n
If no date use (n.d.). <\/p>\n
(TIP: For In-text citation, you may abbreviate the title to the first few words, in quotations, unless the title is short:<\/p>\n
