I observed him to appear as though he felt ill. He made remarks that he felt ill. Mrs. Levy asked that he not let the kids see him under those conditions. Mrs. Levy stated that he was hungover from drinking. She stated that he sits in the dark and drinks every night, and is then hung over the following day. Mrs. Levy stated that she believes her husband is depressed. Mrs. Levy stated that she wanted her husband back, before he began these behaviors. Mr. Levy informed her that he changed when he went it Iraq (Laureate Education, 2013).

Mr. and Mrs. Levy do not agree on his behaviors. Mrs. Levy has valid concerns for her husband and their marriage and Mr. Levy is experiencing emotional distress due to his past experiences and the current stressors that are in their marriage. I propose that Mr. Levy seek individual therapy for himself to address his past experiences. I propose that Mrs. Levy seek individual therapy to address the current stressors that she is feeling within her marriage. I also propose that they seek family therapy to work on building their relationships up together. It is evident that they hold their marriage vows close to them and family therapy could help make their family unit stronger.

The FOCUS program is an Evidence-Based Program (EBP) that I would recommend for the Levy family. The Focus program is designed to offer services to families that are exposed to significant levels of stress or to those who may be at risk for psychological disturbances. The FOCUS program is building from a strengths-based family systems approach and incorporates family resilience methods. The goal of the FOCUS program is to reduce the likelihood of problematic outcomes for family member when there is stress, trauma, or loss impacting the family (Saltzman, 2016). It is evident that there is trauma and stress within the Levy Family. The FOCUS program aids families in enhancing resiliency skills, communication, and family functioning (Saltzman, 2016). Mr. Levy mentioned that he was changed in Iraq. The FOCUS program is designed to help family members develop a sense of understanding of what others have been through. It may be helpful for Mr. Levy to share that with his family so that they can make meaning of his experiences and create beliefs together about them, as well as develop a more confident outlook. According to Saltzman (2016) having shared beliefs, confidence moving forward, and developing a sense of understanding of each other’s past experiences are pivotal to a family’s adaptive response to stressful change and trauma. I believe that the FOCUS program is the right program to help the Levy family as a whole. Chose this intervention because it addresses stress and trauma among families. I do believe that Mr. Levy will still need additional individual therapy, but I think that the FOCUS program will be enough to support his family.

References:

Laureate Education. It is important to not only treat Jake’s problems but also address the concerns his wife is having within their marriage. It will be important for Jake to reintegrate into society along with creating resilience at the same time in order to engage in family interventions that assist Jake’s family and himself with learning how to cope with the trauma will be the best way to achieve recovery (Wheeler & Bragin, 2007).

EBP Intervention for Jake and his family.

The evidenced-based program I would apply with Jake is the FOCUS Family Resilience Program. The FOCUS program offers families who are at risk attributable from stress, trauma, and loss with preventive services (Saltzman, 2016). The FOCUS program is a strength-based program that create resiliency and strength for each family member in order to decrease the negative outcomes. The FOCUS program is compromised of five main aspects such as eliciting family systemic goals, offering family psycho-education and developmental guidance, creating shared family accounts, supporting open, trustworthy and operative communication, and improving family resilience skills (Saltzman, 2016). It is more than likely that Jake will need to attend additional substance abuse and mental health programs along with the FOCUS program as the FOCUS program is brief but an operative family intervention program.

                                                             References

Laureate Education.
