Case Study Analysis is the practical application of the strategic management process. Working on case studies provides a structure to develop and practice the research and analytic skills you will use in business. A comprehensive and thorough analysis should\u00a0 include, but not be limited to the following:\u00a0 the company’s mission\/vision, internal strengths and weaknesses (including financial and stock market analysis), a description of elements in the external environment (opportunities and threats), a problem and possible solutions for this problem.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some suggestions before you begin:\u00a0<\/p>\n
Be practical\u00a0– make reasonable assumptions and supplement the information you find in the case with additional research.<\/p>\n
Be realistic\u00a0– recognize that there is never one single best solution, so justify your recommendations.\u00a0 Consider what will best benefit the company.<\/p>\n
Be specific\u00a0– avoid generalities, use numbers and exact data when possible.<\/p>\n
Be original\u00a0– make logical managerial decisions and assessments.<\/p>\n
Case Study Analysis Format<\/p>\n
Section One \u2013 Background
Briefly state the salient facts of the case in narrative form \u2013 include history and pertinent background information. Be concise and precise. Approximately 1 page. 10 points.<\/p>\n
Section Two \u2013 Problem Statement
Briefly state the central problem in narrative form, and then list the symptoms of the problem. Approximately 1 page. 10 points.<\/p>\n
Section Three \u2013 SWOT Analysis
Bullet and list in rank order – the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats relating to the case. Label the bullets using the information in the text and related Power Points. Four lists with a minimum\u00a0of 4\u00a0points in each.\u00a0 20 points.<\/p>\n
Section Four \u2013 Financial Analysis
Generate a minimum of 2 financial ratios to assess the financial performance of the company.\u00a0For each ratio provide:
ratio name,\u00a0ratio definition,\u00a0report the ratio result (product) of the most recent 2\u00a0years,\u00a0report whether or not the findings for this ratio are poor, satisfactory or excellent. Explain.\u00a0

Section Five \u2013 Alternative Solutions
List a minimum of 3\u00a0alternative solutions.\u00a0 Assign a strategy name to each solution (see: illustrations in Weeks 3-6).\u00a0 Include at least 3 benefits and consequences (pros\/cons) for each potential solution. Note \u2013 \u201cdo nothing\u201d is NOT a solution!\u00a0 1-2 pages.\u00a0\u00a025 points.<\/p>\n
Section Six \u2013 Conclusion and Recommendations\u00a0
Out of the proposed solutions, choose one that you believe is best. Explain.\u00a0 Design an action plan for the solution.\u00a0 Explain how it would solve the original problem within the case.\u00a01-2\u00a0pages. 25 points.<\/p>\n
