Teachers are very crucial in the life of a student. They influence how a student values learning, grasping knowledge, and their attitude towards the teachers and learning in general. In addition, teachers have to shape students’ character and develop their communication and interaction skills that will help them relate well with other people and with themselves. Good communication skills will also contribute to their interaction with people beyond the school environment. The learning environment provided by the teacher is supposed to contribute to the development of all-around. The teacher’s character also plays a role in the student’s life and therefore means teachers should be role models to be imitated by students. This paper will describe what is expected of a good teacher.<\/p>\n
Teachers should possess relevant knowledge on the content they are supposed to provide to the learners. Professional knowledge regarding the teaching profession is essential for any teacher. This is acquired through training. In addition, the teacher should have mastery of concepts, research topics, and other disciplines. Still, regarding knowledge, teachers should possess the best teaching methods. Knowledge will go a long way into effectively sharing knowledge with the students. Teachers should also have the appropriate skills required of teachers, such as planning, implementation, and assessment of students. This will help in better delivery. Also, teachers should possess the appropriate dispositions necessary for the learning environment (Sakkir, Dollah & Ahmad, 2021). These dispositions include appropriate values, ethics, norms, beliefs, commitments, and attitudes that will enable the teacher to have a good learning environment. The skills are necessary for creating a student-centered classroom since the teacher attempts to provide the best environment for students. Reflective practice will also contribute to the teacher’s delivery of information by identifying past failures, values, and dispositions to establish the way forward.<\/p>\n
Teachers should carry out adequate and thorough planning before teaching students. Planning entails identification of student needs, formulation of goals and objectives of the subject being taught, acquisition and mastery of the full content that is to be taught to students, identification of the most desired and effective delivery styles, choice of the best learning environment, and selection of the best methods of student assessment on understanding of the content to be delivered to them. Planning is done by the teacher before the beginning of the teaching and therefore done by creating own free time to carry out an effective lesson plan (Wang & Wang, 2019). The main aim of planning is to ensure that there is systematic delivery of content in a clear and adequately defined sequence to students, therefore, achieving the primary objective of providing that the students are put first.<\/p>\n
Teachers are also obliged to ensure full implementation of planned activity in their content. Implementation is the actual engagement of students in their learning process. A teacher should have appropriate presentation skills to ensure students easily understand him. In addition, the teacher should explain to students every detail asks and answer questions to enhance their participation in the lesson. The teacher should be a good listener, answer questions accordingly, and demonstrate content by using appropriate examples and situations.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the teacher should create an ideal environment for learning by setting rules and regulations, showing concern and respect for students, and avoiding discrimination. For implementation to be achieved, proper ethics should be applied to ensure adequate student participation in the learning process (Wang & Wang, 2019). Proper assessment should be used to determine the student’s level of understanding. This will go along with achieving good understanding by students.<\/p>\n
In conclusion, the teacher is expected to possess the most appropriate skills required of a teacher. A teacher should have extensive knowledge of the content, proper skills, and dispositions that will create a favorable learning environment for the learners. This will realize the achievement of appropriate learning.<\/p>\n
