It also has a very high density of people. Residents of the ZIP code 11205 are mostly of white descent. People in their late twenties to early forties make up a sizable portion of the population, as do those in their early thirties. There are also very few families and a considerable number of single persons. The 11205 ZIP code has a higher-than-average proportion of residents under the age of eighteen. Compared to the rest of the nation, the typical household earnings are forty-four thousand, six hundred and eighty-eight dollars. It is also comparable to ZIP codes in the immediate areas. Despite this, people in zip code 11205 tend to be poorer than average compared to the rest of the city.

The windshield survey indicates that some of the natural resources in the area include lakes, forests, rivers, and watersheds. Some of the lakes found in Brooklyn include Oakland Lake, the Brooklyn lake shown in figure 1, and the pool lake. There are many reasons why lakes are vital, from managing the flow of river water and water conservation during times of drought to preserving the ecosystem and hydropower production. Besides, rivers found in this zip code include East River, Newton Creek, Fresh creek, and Shell bank creek. These rivers transport moisture and minerals to all corners of the globe. They serve a critical role in draining surface water in the hydrological cycle. Many of the world’s creatures can thrive in river environments. The survey also showed that there are several forests under the zip code. The forests include forest parks, swale, and ravines. These forests provide fresh air and woods to the residents.

Fig 1: Brooklyn Lake (Hip Camp, n.d)

Despite having these resources, the survey demonstrates that this community faces some challenges. Some rampant issues include water, air, and land pollution. This results from wastes that come from the manufacturing facilities and homesteads. The other challenge is the poor suffering in the slums due to unemployment. Since the community has a high density of people who live in slums, diseases are spread. One of the slums is Bedford which is shown in figure 2. Unemployment has more than simply financial consequences for a community. People who are out of work not only have less money, but their physical and emotional health suffers as a result. After interviewing one of the residents, he outlined that higher criminality and a decline in volunteering are two of the societal consequences of high unemployment. Unemployment hurts the administration’s ability to borrow since it reduces the number of goods and services produced and consumed.

Fig. 2 Bedford slum (Alamy, n.d)

The survey shows that Brooklyn has the highest cases of heart disease than any other state. The other common diseases in this zip code include diabetes, hypertension, and stroke. This zip code is also recognized for a higher number of emergency visits. People’s health may be greatly influenced by where they reside. Libraries, playgrounds, and convenient access to high-quality medical care are indicators of an area’s health, as are appropriate and high-quality housing and a strong sense of community. These statistics are consistent with the health statistics from the Newyork Prebyterian. The website shows that research and development is necessary for fighting cardiovascular diseases (Newyork Prebyterian, 2022). In addition to providing a sense of security, the research also shows where to get access to locations where residents may exercise and shops where they can buy nutritious foods.

References

Alamy.
