INDIVIDUAL ORAL PRESENTATION<\/p>\n
Duration\/length: 3 min. for each presenter (1-2 additional min. for questions from the class)<\/p>\n
A major goal of your oral presentation is to persuade your audience in:<\/p>\n
the knowledge you have gained while conducting research on your topic <\/p>\n
the importance of the topic for your community <\/p>\n
You can persuade your audience through: <\/p>\n
1) presenting effectively your idea\/view and how it could improve the life of others<\/p>\n
2) your performance \u2013 the clear articulation of your ideas, the ability to hold the audience\u2019s interest on you, your presence, tone, gestures, and physical appearance, etc.<\/p>\n
3) the organization of your presentation\u2019s content<\/p>\n
Here are some guidelines on how to organize your presentation:<\/p>\n
Present yourself and your topic to the class.<\/p>\n
Explain why you chose the topic. Have you explored the topic prior to this presentation? Was there any particular inspiration behind it \u2013 a movie, book, a real-life person\/event?<\/p>\n
What and how many sources did you find during the research process? Were there any challenges? What were the most interesting sources (mention 1-2) and why? (Have a few brief summaries for the academic sources that you are going to use.) What did you learn from them? Any quotes\/definitions that stood out?<\/p>\n
Outline your plan for your research essay. (Use your outline draft\/breakdown of thesis notes)<\/p>\n
Why do you think your research essay is important for other young people\/students or for your community?<\/p>\n
P.S. A few questions from other students regarding your topic and research may follow your presentation.<\/p>\n
4) the application of visuals \u2013 optional; you can present from your notes, without using any technology<\/p>\n
the additional use of interesting and relevant images, colors, graphs, or appropriate sound and music, that could serve as a background or end of your presentation, etc.<\/p>\n
a well-prepared Power Point (Prezi, etc.) presentation with a clear, coherent, condensed outline<\/p>\n
showing your audience the essentials of your research in a point form rather than copying and pasting entire quotes or overloading your screen with too much text.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
