This is a team-level assignment that provides the opportunity to apply many (if not most) of the concepts and tools covered in this course, and to demonstrate your understanding of the course materials. For this analysis, you will need to integrate the tools (i.e., power diagnosis framework) we have covered throughout the course to analyze the documentary The Art of the Steal<\/em>, which is about the Barnes Foundation art collection. This assignment is due by midnight April 26, 2020 <\/strong>via CANVAS; these assignments will be marked down one full grade per day late. The maximum length of the deliverable is five pages (single spaced, 1″ inch margins, 12 point Times Roman font).  Any summary tables that you would like to provide are in addition to the five (5) page maximum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In performing your analysis, please break the analysis down into three major time periods: 1) Barnes era, 2) Glanton\u2019s reign (you can skip Franklin), and 3) Watson\u2019s reign.  As further detailed below, you will need to 1) analyze the contextual factors; 2) assess the power and influence sources (potential as well as those actually used), of the major players; and 3) evaluate the outcomes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Contextual Assessment<\/strong> (35% of grade) – Narrative description of the elements of the context (i.e., per \u201cpower diagnostic framework\u201d\u2014major actors and their goals\/interests, problem\/issue, resource scarcity, formal structure, informal structure etc.) that would lend to the use of power as discussed in the course. When analyzing the context, please provide an overarching assessment that generally applies across all eras, as well as more local assessments to each of the three major time periods\u2014major actors (and their goals\/interests) can be done as part of the latter assessments.<\/li>
  2. Assessment of Power Sources and Political Tactics<\/strong> (35% of grade) – Assess the power sources and influence tactics\u2014available and actually used\u2014of each of the major players that you identified in part 1. Again, these assessments should be done for each of the three time periods (when applicable to any particular actor).\u00a0 In making the assessments, be sure to provide brief explanations that support your assessments.\u00a0<\/li>
  3. Assessment of Outcomes (<\/strong>30% of grade ) \u2013 Please provide a brief narrative description of the main power\/influence outcomes for each of the three time periods. These assessments should of course flow from the preceding two analyses (and as part of this should be clear about which major actor you considered the influencer and which the target(s) in each era).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
