Global Warming: A Very Short Introduction, Oxford University Press

This book was written by Mark Maslin a prominent Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society

(FRSG), Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and a professor of Earth System Science at

University College London. Mark gave a brief description about the history of global warming

Hypothesis which stated how the release of green gas emission into the atmosphere would

affect the environment as a whole and this was backed up with theories from different

scientists. He also stated that the “biggest problem with global warming is our inability to

predict the future”. For the purpose of my paper, I would use the book to support my claim

that human activities would substantially warm the earth by adding carbon dioxide into the

atmosphere, and this would continue to increase the temperature of the environment.

Benjamin I. Cook, Jason E. Smerdon, Richard. S, Sloan. C, (2014) Global Warming and 21st Century

drying. Climate Dynamics, 43(9-10), 2607-2627

https://doi-org.georgian.idm.oclc.org/10.1007/s00382-014-2075-y

This is a scholarly reviewed periodical which states how Global warming is expected to increase

the frequency and intensity of droughts in the 21st century. It also talks about how the

Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) and Palmer Drought Severity Index

(PDSI) projections using precipitation and penman Monteith based PET changes from the GCMs

generally, agree. It also states that Increased PET do not only intensify drying in areas where

precipitation is already reduced, but it also drives areas into drought that would otherwise

experience little drying or even wetting from precipitation trends alone.it also states that PDSI

has been used, with good success, to track both observational changes in drought and changes

in future drought (Dai 2013. van der Schrier et al. 2013), For the purpose of my paper I would

use this article to support my claim that global warming can lead to drought which is a natural

disaster.

Sobel, A. (2021) Making the Transition to Green Economy: What is our responsibility as Citizens,

Bulletin of the Atomic Scientist 77(2), 67-69

 https://doi-org.georgian.idm.oclc.org/10.1080/00963402.2021.1885821

This is an article written by Adam Sobel, He is a professor at Columbia University’s

Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Engineering. He is also the author or coauthor of over

150 peer reviewed scientific articles. Sobel described how we citizens can reduce global

warming in the economy, he stated this could only work if everyone worked collectively and

that the goal is change the behaviour of fossil fuel companies which result to reduction in the

building of harmful infrastructure. The weakness of the articles is that he related the points

listed to politics which wasn’t meant to be like he is campaigning for the democratic party. For

the purpose of my paper I will use this source to support my claim that states that we humans

should work together to reduce global warming.

Montt, G. Wiebe, K S. The weakness of this article is that it reduced the labour forces needed in fossil fuel

related sectors. This article is useful for my paper as I was able to further and expand my points

on why global warming should be reduced in the economy.

Argumentative Research Annotated Bibliography Mark, M.
