When you get to the home page, click on “Resources.”\u00a0 Next click on “Position Statements.” Scroll down to find the “Developmentally Appropriate Practice Position Statement.”\u00a0 Click on that link.\u00a0 You will see the Position Statement, which is under revision.\u00a0 It is quite detailed, so spend some time looking it over, paying special attention to the definition of DAP.
If you are not at all familiar with DAP, you will probably want to spend some time studying its meaning.\u00a0 If you are already familiar with DAP, check your understanding to see if you truly know what DAP means and how it applies to your classroom practice.
Once you have reviewed these materials and those in your Moravcik\/Nolte textbook on pages 10-11, as well as your DAP text, write three (3) good paragraphs, one (1) for each topic listed below, discussing why it is important for you, as a teacher of young children, to understand DAP as you plan curriculum.\u00a0 Do not just quote from the documents.\u00a0 Think about why this is\u00a0personally\u00a0important to you as a teacher.\u00a0 Address the three dimensions of DAP:
1.\u00a0\u00a0Knowing about child development and learning (Commonality)
2.\u00a0\u00a0Knowing what is individually appropriate (Individuality)
3.\u00a0\u00a0Knowing what is culturally important (Context)
Be sure to cite your sources in APA format.\u00a0 (The syllabus shows the proper format for citations from your textbook.)
