Sometimes paper and pencil or online tests of personality are used to identify traits, tendencies, and behaviors. One popular test is the Myers\u2013Briggs test developed in the 1940s by Isabel Briggs Meyers. This was an attempt to identify four dimensions of behavior based on the personality theory of C. J. Jung in the 1920s. These personality dimensions are as follows:<\/p>\n
Extroversion (E) or Introversion (I), whether you tend to prefer the outer world and many people or your own inner world and fewer associates<\/p>\n
Sensing (S) or Intuition (N), whether you focus more on basic factual information from the five senses or interpretation of the complexities and abstract concepts gleaned from information<\/p>\n
Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), whether you tend to make decisions based on logic and consistency or by looking at people and their feelings<\/p>\n
Judging (J) or Perceiving (P), whether you prefer things decided and organized or prefer to stay open to new options<\/p>\n
The Meyers\u2013Briggs Inventory is still in broad use in academic settings and to help employers and workers understand each other in job situations. The test is aimed to have no positive versus negative connotations but to help see preferences people show in dealing with the world.<\/p>\n
This discussion asks you to look at and take one or two online tests that are written to be closely matching the trait dimensions of the Myers\u2013Briggs Inventory. Then, you will discuss these results with your classmates.<\/p>\n
