In a speech given by Vice President Mike Pence in October <\/p>\n
2018, he remarks that \u201cAfter the fall of the Soviet Union, we <\/p>\n
assumed that a free China was inevitable. Heady with optimism <\/p>\n
at the turn of the 21st Century, America agreed to give Beijing <\/p>\n
open access to our economy, and we brought China into the <\/p>\n
World Trade Organization. Previous administrations made this <\/p>\n
choice in the hope that freedom in China would expand in all of <\/p>\n
its forms\u2014not just economically, but politically, with a newfound <\/p>\n
respect for classical liberal principles, private property, personal <\/p>\n
liberty, religious freedom\u2014the entire family of human rights. But <\/p>\n
