Having read the passage in both formal and functional translation, list at least 2 similarities and 3 differences between the way both translations cover this story. You may list as many similarities and differences that you find as long as you meet the minimum amount. <\/p>\n
Similarity \u2013 Both translations state that Tabitha was a good person who was committed to helping others and promoting social welfare. In both instances, Tabitha is expressed as a compassionate person who is full of love for the poor and engaged in charity work. <\/p>\n
Similarity \u2013 Both versions indicate that Tabitha became ill and died. The reader can use either of the translations to understand what led to Tabitha’s death. The two translations also indicate that Tabitha’s body was washed and laid upstairs as mourners waited for Peter to come.<\/p>\n
Difference \u2013 The formal translation ESV mentions the disciples, and the functional translation calls them the believers.<\/p>\n
Difference – The ESV terms Tabitha as a disciple without further explaining her relationship with Christ (“ESV Bible”, 2022). On the other hand, NLT recognizes Tabitha as a believer and a person who did good things to express her faith in God (“BibleGateway”, n.d.).<\/p>\n
Difference – ESV is categorical about the area where Peter’s actions were known, and word spread. On the other hand, NLT only states the news spread across the town but fails to mention the town’s name. The difference creates confusion for the reader about the specific area where the word spread.<\/p>\n

Peter arrives immediately and sends the mourning widows outside. He prays for Tabitha, and she arises from the dead. News spread across the town, and many people believe in the Lord.<\/p>\n

Peter arrives and prays for Tabitha. She comes back from the dead, and people acknowledge the Lord’s presence. More people get saved and praise the Lord for the good deed.<\/p>\n

Joppa is the place where Tabitha lived. <\/p>\n
Acts 9:36 says, ‘Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas.’<\/p>\n

The incident takes place when Peter was among the most powerful disciples left to preach the word by Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n
Healing the sick and raising back the dead was among the primary ways of demonstrating the powerful nature of Christ and making people believe in the Lord.<\/p>\n

Why the disciples called Peter. Peter was among the preachers of the gospel and those with the healing power.<\/p>\n
Why the incident centered on Tabitha- She was among the people who did good to society and believed in the Lord.<\/p>\n
Why people believed in Lord- The incident was extraordinary, and only Christ could be involved in such incident.<\/p>\n

How did the disciples show faith in Lord- They sent people to call Peter because they knew he had the power to heal and raise the dead.<\/p>\n
How Peter demonstrated the Lord was working through him- He prayed for Tabitha, and the Lord answered the prayers<\/p>\n
How did people respond to the miracle- People responded by believing and trusting in the Lord.<\/p>\n
