This comparison society could be an earlier American society or a contemporary or historical society elsewhere in the world. Use art from the place and time you’ve chosen to analyze versions of your target identity during that particular place and time. Find (at least) three pieces of visual art from that place and time that help you to better understand the nature of that identity. Remember that these pieces should be visual art that communicates primarily via the image, not primarily via text. (For example, avoid editorial cartoons.) Focus on forms of visual art where the artist has been actively involved in creating the image, not a simple photograph.
In one discussion post,
At the very top, list the cultural identity that you are examining. (This should be the same cultural identity you’ve been examining so far.)
List the time and place of your comparison society. (This should be a time place and place other than the contemporary US).
Post images of your selected pieces of art from your comparison society;
For each image of a piece of art, include background information including the name of the artist, year, and the place the piece was produced.You may not always be able to get that information. For example, you may not be able to identify the name of an artist who anonymously created a graffiti mural. But, do some digging. For example, if you find a piece on Google Images, click through to the original website and do some investigating to find out this information. We need to know when and where a piece was produced in order to be able to use it as an expression of that particular place and time.

In a second post, explain in 1-2 paragraphs what your selected pieces of visual art reveal about the content and nature of the identity. You should consider questions such as:
What do these images imply about what it means to be “x”?
What assumptions or preconceptions about “x’s” are implicit in the images?
How might we be affected by images that portray being “x” the way these images do?
How is being “x” different than being “y,” according to what you find in these images?
Who counts as being “x,” and who doesn’t count as being “x,” according to what you find in these images?
These questions are examples that I hope will serve to inspire you. You are not required to answer them, although you should address questions like them in your 1-2 paragraph analysis. Remember that the point here is to use art to understand humanity, human culture, human identity. So, your focus should not be primarily on simply describing the art, but on using the art to show us something about your chosen identity.

DB: Using Art to Analyze IdentityNo unread replies.No replies.For this assignment, use visual art from your comparison society to examine and analyze your chosen identity.
