Assignment #2 – Schizophrenia: Personal experience
One goal of this course is to help you learn what it is like to live with a mental disorder so that you can be more sensitive and understanding toward those living with these disorders. One way to achieve this goal in relation to schizophrenia is to read about someone’s experience with it.
Read the three excerpts from the following book, posted in Module 8.5 Readings
Saks, E.R. (2007). The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through Madness. Hyperion: New York.
Next, address the following questions on a word or related document. You may also copy and paste your responses if you are not able to upload your file. Limit to 2-3 pages, double spaced, 12 pt font, Times New Roman. Type your name at the top of the assignment. Please email if you need assistance.

Assignment #2
The Gold Rush was a multi-faceted historical event celebrated for its adventure and opportunity. But depending on your ethnic-racial -gender identity it may have been experienced in a different way. Assume the identity of a person belonging to one of the minority groups cited in Chapter 4: California Indians – Californios – Women – Spanish Speakers – Chinese – African Americans – Europeans, etc. and write a diary or journal entry or letter telling of your experiences during the California Gold Rush. Remember to include some historic details along with your “story” and reflections.
Specific Instructions
- The text portion of this assignment needs to be at least 375 words long and include a picture/image.
- Make sure you are following the assignment description and including a strong introduction and conclusion. Consult Rubric at bottom of page.
- You must consult at least two sources and they must be listed. Footnotes must be used to show specific source of information.
- Font cannot be larger than 12.
- Assignments that have too many typos and grammatical errors will lose points. Make sure your assignment is in Word or PDF format.

Final Project: Introduction, Literature Review, and Methods Section
Turn in the proposed methods section for your research paper as well as your introduction and literature review.
The introduction and literature review should address your research question: why it is important, and how prior research does or does not support your hypothesis, as well as providing a background on what we know about this topic.
Please refer to the material on the components of a research paper provided in Module 1 as you work on this document.
Your methods section, in addition to covering the subheadings of participants, instruments, and procedure, must include a fourth subheading called ethical issues and note any ethical issues that need to be considered, as well as how they would be handled.
Be sure to include a title/cover page and a reference page formatted in APA style.
Submit your response to the M4: Assignment 2 Dropbox by Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Your response should be at least four pages, double spaced, long. All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources. Confirm the latest edition number with your instructor.
