Unit 4 Discussion: Digital Age

“What turns me on about the digital age, what excited me personally, is that you have closed the gap between dreaming and doing. You see, it used to be that if you wanted to make a record of a song, you needed a studio and a producer. Now, you need a laptop.” – Bono, Lead singer of the band U2

Before you begin, please watch the following video clip. It is 4:28 minutes in length.

For this discussion, please review the humanities themes and choose one to analyze in relationship to the digital age. If you choose Love, for example, summarize some of the important contributions to the humanities related to Love. Include an analysis of how the theme of Love is reflected in our world culture. Finally, discuss how the digital age has impacted the concept of Love.

Address the following in your discussion, and be sure to elaborate, use examples, and include at least one resource outside of the required course readings.

  • Summarize some of the important contributions to the humanities within this theme.
  • Analyze how the theme is reflected in our world culture.
  • Is the digital age making its own contributions to the theme?
  • Is the digital age changing the theme?
  • What does it mean to be human in the digital age?

Be sure to include specific examples and elaborate on your comments as detailed in the Discussion Forum Requirements. This forum should be considered a formal writing assignment in addition to a class discussion. Include terms from your textbook. Research (outside of the required course readings) is required, so be sure to document your resources.

Discussion Forum Requirements:

  1. Always provide information to support your comments, including textbook material and researched material.
  2. Analyze your responses in relationship to course-related learned material (terminology and concepts).
  3. Continue to review the Discussion Forums throughout the term, and be sure to respond to “reply” posts.
  4. Make sure anything you post contains only logical and relevant arguments to the issue at hand. It should contain no judgmental, emotionally charged, accusatory, or inflammatory language. Remember, it is not only what you say, but how you say it.
  5. You are required to use outside sources and research when developing your discussion posts; as such, you also need to properly cite your sources in each post.

Please note that you must avoid plagiarism when posting your discussion responses. All discussion postings must be written in your own words! Simply copying and pasting someone else’s words in your discussion post will not be accepted and will be viewed as plagiarism.
