Active Participation and Professionalism

During immersion, students will refine :

  1. the scorecards for their country and,
  2. prepare for post-trip presentations that more fully assess the risks and opportunities and provide guidance on exploiting the opportunities and navigating the risks.

Students will actively participate in visits and engage guest speakers to understand:

  1. the risks and opportunities of doing business in the country,
  2. strategies domestic firms used to expand in the domestic market and/or expand in global markets,
  3. strategies foreign-based firms used to enter the domestic market, and
  4. strategies firms used to navigate the risks of doing business in country.

Be sure to take notes and include citations for insights (speaker and company name). It is expected that students bring scorecards to presentations to guide inquiry.

Participation is measured using both quantitative and qualitative assessments during group events. Faculty will track contributions and qualitatively assess the significance of contributions.

Significant contributions involve questions or comments that:

  1. enhances the class’s understanding of the business environment,
  2. appropriately relates the presentation to course themes, readings, or previous presentations, or
  3. provides a deeper understanding of the risks and opportunities of operating in the country.

Participation is not awarded for requests for simple clarifications/definitions or comments that are not appropriate for the situation or current discussion. To encourage all students to contribute, students will not receive credit for more than one significant contribution per event. If you have already contributed during an event, please allow adequate time for others before making a second contribution.

  •  “C” grades or higher will be awarded to students that contribute at least once during the week and have no significant behavioral issues or tardiness.
  • “B” grades will be awarded for students that make at least 2-3 contributions during the week and have no significant behavioral issues or tardiness.
  • “A” grades will be awarded for students that make multiple significant contributions during the week enhance the groups overall understanding of the environment and have no significant behavioral issues or tardiness.

You do not need to submit anything for this assignment.
