1. Consider these prompts to generate ideas for the outline and letter:
- Graduation is 7 days away
- Detail what you have accomplished, learned, and experienced during your time in the program
- Provide advice to your current-day self about things to consider along your journey; consider how you hope things will go
- Point to struggles and challenges you have encountered along the way; provide recommendations on how to manage the struggles and challenges you have encountered
- Define where you want to be professionally upon graduation
2. Using Microsoft Word Outline Mode, create an outline for the letter you will write. It is located in the “View” tab – left side. The Outline Mode is a tool for writing papers that easily transfers to final work in Microsoft Office and PowerPoint. Writing an outline is a critical tool for becoming a more organized writer.
3. Submit the outline by uploading it to this assignment.
4. Using your outline as a guide, complete you letter to your future self.
- The letter has a 500-maximum word count
- Include an introduction and a conclusion
- Read the letter out loud to yourself, editing for grammar and flow issues
- Include transition sentences that take the audience from one thought to the next in a well-connected manner
Before completing your letter:
- Edit your work for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and readability (flow)
- Read it out loud to someone else; incorporate their recommendations to edit your final letter
5. Print out the final version of your “Letter to Myself” and bring it to Penn State for the August On-Boarding Intensive. You will read your letter out loud to your cohort.
