OMBA Team Feedback Meeting

Introduction

In order to (1) help you improve, (2) help your team improve, and (3) apply this lesson’s materials, each OMBA team is required to complete a formal feedback assessment during a virtual team meeting. There are several steps associated with this process, including things to do before, during, and after your virtual team meeting. NOTE – do not do your team feedback meeting until AFTER the synchronous session for lesson 8, since we’ll be going over feedback tips in that session. Please find the details below.

Giving feedback to another person, either positive or negative, can be difficult, but it is a skill that every manager needs to have. If, as the giver of feedback, you show respect for the person receiving feedback and sincerely attempt to be helpful, it can be a constructive process and a good learning experience for both you and receiver of the feedback. If you are the receiver, the process can help illuminate your blind spots and enable you to address those behaviors that are getting in the way of achieving your personal and career goals. The process for both giver and receiver can be enhanced if you follow the “Guidelines for Effective Feedback” provided below.

Steps to be Completed BEFORE Team Meeting

  1. Each individual should take some time to reflect on the performance of each group member as well as the group as a whole. What is each person doing well and how could they improve? What is the group as a whole doing well and how could it improve? Use the “Points to Consider” for each member.
  2. Each individual should fill out the “Questions for Team Level Feedback”, being sure to do both the closed-ended and open-ended items. Note that the items all correspond to themes in the Teams course.
  3. Each individual should read the “Guidelines for Effective Feedback”.
