Directions
As an authentic learning experience, the Global Strategic Plan represents the opportunity for you to apply all of the tools and methods that you have been learning over the duration of the course. Prepare your Global Strategic Plan as if you were presenting it to the executives of your cohesion company, and perhaps to other interested high-level business managers who possess at least some familiarity with the company. Here is some guidance that you might find useful:
- Your Global Strategic Plan must be an original document, not a rehash of your cohesion company’s current strategic plan.
- Your introduction should set the stage for any executive who might read your report. It should briefly state the rationale for your plan and tell the reader the path that they will be taking. Your introduction should also provide some concise background material on your cohesion company to familiarize the reader with what it does, where it operates, how it has evolved over the years, and so on.
- Your three major sections (strategic foundation, strategy formulation, and strategy implementation) should incorporate feedback and suggestions that the instructor provided in the evaluations of your three team application exercises. If the instructor indicated previously that significant work was needed, you need to ensure that you accomplish that work to improve the section(s). Otherwise, if they scored highly already, you can incorporate them “as is” or with only minor modifications. If you are fortunate enough to be able to insert those sections without significant additional work, congratulations! Your earlier efforts paid off.
- You may present matrices, tables, and figures as appendices at your discretion to improve the effectiveness of your report. If you embed them in the text, that’s fine. Perhaps you will discuss the conclusions in your text and present the analytical tools as appendices. Again, that stylistic decision is up to your team. Whatever makes your report most effective should shape your decision.
- You should conclude your report with a brief yet insightful summary of your plan and how it can benefit the cohesion company. Additionally, use this section to briefly discuss the lessons that you learned during the process of developing a strategic plan.
- All facts, sources, and data that you used must be cited properly; you must provide a complete listing of your references with proper citations. Standards of academic integrity apply here; plagiarism, fabrication, falsification of facts, and the like will be dealt with according to University policies. Every member of your team is responsible for upholding academic integrity and will be subject to appropriate sanctions if University policies are violated or standards are not upheld.
Your report should be a professional document that is comprehensive, yet succinct, and that flows—it should be written in one voice with smooth transitions. Please work together to prepare one team report, using the following parameters:
- 25 pages (maximum) in length
- single-spaced, 12-point type, Times New Roman font
- appropriate use of references (mandatory), using APA or Chicago Style format
Please note well: your report is not to exceed 25 pages total, exclusive of title page, references and citations, and appendices (that might contain matrices, tables, and figures). That means that you might have to do some editing and trimming to condense your previous work, which should be expected given the importance of this report. I expect that your report will include the following (with page budgets):
- Title page
- Executive summary* (1 page)
- Table of contents (1 page)
- Introduction (1 page)
- Strategic foundation**
- Strategy formulation**
- Strategy implementation**
- Conclusion (1 page) and lessons learned (1 page)
- References and citations (as needed)
- Appendices
*An executive summary is simply a synopsis of your report’s major findings. Accordingly, it should be written last. In an executive summary, you should include only the most important information that you intend to convey. Your executive summary may not exceed one page in length; any background information (e.g., company history, etc.) should be in the Introduction section of your report.
** Strategy foundation, strategy formulation, and strategy implementation together must not exceed 20 pages.
