In this online discussion, please refer to the Culture Change at Texaco case in Trevino and Nelson, pp. 207-209.
As you read the Texaco case, think about the values that are important to you. Address the following questions in your analysis, relating your responses to the EACH OF THE ELEMENTS on the Fundamentals of Effective Management to Promote Employee Engagement (reference Figure 11.3 in course content) in Lesson 11:
- Identify and comment on the relevant initiatives that the company instituted to promote ethical behavior and encourage employee engagement.
- Connect the initiatives to the ethical issues the employees initially faced before the “culture change effort” was launched.
- In your opinion, will the “culture change effort” address the existing ethical concerns, promote ethical behavior, and encourage the five dimensions of employee engagement? Why or why not?
Provide suggestions to improve the new Texaco plan. Use your own personal experiences or Ethical Organizational Culture course content in Lesson Eleven to support your statements.
- Will the strategies implemented empower the employees to report harassment without the fear of retaliation or a detrimental effect on their career?
- How did the CEO promote ethical standards to address the ethical behavior of employees in the organization?
- In your opinion, how will Texaco’s hiring and recruitment practices aimed at increasing workforce diversity succeed at enhancing employee engagement?
