Overview
This scaffolding activity will assist you in building the components of the Module 2 Deliverable. It is not graded as a stand alone activity but it is required. Feedback will be provided after submission so you can refine your work and integrate it into the module deliverable for grading.
- Managerial Practices Worksheet – Based on the research of your selected company, use the Managerial Practices Table to identify the practices/policies (within each category) that are evident within the organization. Carefully review the characteristics of growth outlined by Greiner (pages 6-7). Based on this information, circle the specific practices/policies within each of the five categories: Management Focus, Organizational Structure, Top Management Style, Control System, and Management Reward Emphasis.
- Category Narrative – Select one of the five Managerial Practice categories (Management Focus, Organizational Structure, Top Management Style, Control System, or Management Reward Emphasis). In 2-3 paragraphs, describe your logic/reasoning (including specific examples) for supporting the outcome on your worksheet for that one category (the practices circled in step 1). Your reasoning should be clear, concise, and directly related to the outcome in your worksheet.
- For Scaffolding Activity #1, submit the completed Managerial Practices Worksheet (step 1) and ONE category narrative (step 2). The other four category narratives will be included in the Module 2 Deliverable. Continue working on the four other category narratives for the final deliverable after receiving the feedback for Scaffolding Activity #1.
For this initial step of the scaffolding process, assessment within the Managerial Practices Table should be completed HORIZONTALLY, on each of the 5 categories. Do NOT try to determine a final Growth or Crisis phase yet. We will get to this as we move through the scaffolding process. The intent, at this first step of assessment, is to conduct a thorough review and evaluation on each of the 5 categories separately, considering all “boxes” to the right of the metric. Your assessment should remain HORIZONTAL in the table and should NOT include a final outcome of Growth/Crisis.
