Module 3 Scaffolding Activity #1: Core Culture

  • Select company. IF POSSIBLE, I SUGGEST USING YOUR OWN ORGANIZATION.
  • Review/understand the company’s core culture as discussed by Schein (noted in Young’s article) and depicted in the center/core of the visual, shown on page 10 of the article. Understand the meaning of artifacts, basic assumptions and shared values. Translate these core cultural elements, individually, as it applies to your selected company. Provide specific examples for each core element that will clearly define the essence of the organization’s core culture (defined by these 3 components).
  • The outcome for this Scaffolding Activity #1 is three-fold:
  1. Written narrative of the discussion noted above. Narratives should be 1-2 paragraphs/category.  
  2. One visual (PPT): THE CENTER OF THE VISUAL SHOWN ON PAGE 10 (enlarged), shown on one slide. The visual should include key words describing each category (above). This visual serves as the beginning focal point of your presentation.
  3. Explain: Is the organization attempting to maintain or change the cultural environment? (be specific)
