Assignment: The ITC eChoupal Initative (Group Case)
This case assignment is a group assignment and you will be utilizing the group space in Canvas to complete this assignment. Access the group space through the People (Links to an external site.) link in the Course navigation menu. It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you utilize the group space to collaborate with your group (Links to an external site.), share files (Links to an external site.), and participate in asynchronous discussions (Links to an external site.).
Instructions:
- The case should be discussed by the group using the questions provided below.
- The group discussion (in the group space) should be based around pertinent issues and frameworks related to the case.
- Do NOT respond to the case in question and answer format.
- As a group, you will submit ONE report through this assignment area (your group should appoint a leader to submit the paper).
- The report should be approximately 7 – 8 pages (single space, standard margins). Supportive information such as charts and graphs should NOT be included in the total page count.

- What was ITC’s motivation for creating eChoupal?
- What were the old and new physical flows and information flows in the channel?
- What barriers did ITC face in embarking on this project?
- What principles did ITC employ as it built the newly-fashioned supply chain to overcome the barriers?
- How should ITC develop this platform for the future?
This case has wider application than you may think at first reading.
Additional Questions:
- Did ITC succeed because the supply chain was obviously very inefficient and they just picked the low hanging fruit?
- How do you identify low hanging fruits there? ITC operated against technological, social, and cultural barriers – without using excessive force – and at 12% they were not even the largest player? What can we learn from this?
