Assignment 1: Chapter 1
1. Find a story or article from a major news source (e.g. NYT, AP, NBC, CNN, FOX, etc.) that reports findings or uses the findings of some social scientific study to make a claim about a causal relationship between two things (e.g. age and frequency of exercise).
Using the information within the article:
· Identify the main “finding” that is reported. State what the finding is and provide a direct quote from the article.
· Identify what the main method of observation (choose one the four methods discussed in Chapter 1). Again, provide a quote from the article and then explain why the method you chose is the best description.
· Identify the data that were used or collected by quoting directly from the article.
· Finally, explain how the main finding were used by the author(s) to support the causal relationship.
Be sure to provide a link/citation for the article (you can also attach it as a PDF).
As always, you must meet all of the requirements stated in the assignment guidelines to receive full credit.
