Instructions:
1.
Students
are expected to prepare and present a 500 word speech based on a selected topic
(SEE LIST OF TOPICS BELOW). The expected speech formats, as taught in the course,
must be used and you must consider your intended audience.
2.
Students
will be given 3-5 minutes to deliver this speech via a video recording. You can
use props and any other tools to aid in enhancing your presentation and
recording.
3.
To
assist the lecturer in the grading of the speech, students are also asked to
compose no more than two short paragraphs
stating:
§ Topic of speech
§ Demographic/Situational
Analysis: Describe your intended audience.
What factors did you consider to
approach your speech format?
What is to be submitted?
1.
The
process document in two paragraphs or less and can be placed in the same word
document as your written speech
2.
The
written speech itself – using the actual speech formatting
3.
The
link with the video delivery of the speech to be uploaded on the Moodle
platform via Wiki.

RUBRIC FOR DELIVERY OF SPEECH
1. The
delivery of the content is organized logically, in accordance with the written
speech, with fluid transitions to capture and hold the listener’s attention
throughout the entire presentation – 4 marks
2.
The vocabulary and information are
descriptive and accurate, engaging the listener through imagery – 3
marks
3. Uses
tone, speed, and volume as tools – 5 marks
4. Non-Verbal
delivery – eye contact, interaction with aids, and physical gestures
demonstrate the speaker’s energy and interest, guiding the listener through the
presentation– 5 marks
5. The
use of props and tools, choices of language and examples used enhance the
presentation and/or demonstrate awareness of listener’s needs – 3
marks
