Write a comparison and contrast essay in which you explain why you prefer one subject to the other by comparing and contrasting them (e.g. Boston is a more exciting city than San Francisco). You should choose two comparable subjects of your choice — two novels written by the same author, two historical movies, two capital cities, two English teachers, or two libraries. No research is required for this essay. Use pronouns such as “people, customer, traveler, and a person” instead of ” I, my, and me”.
Based on your discussion of the major distinctive points of comparison and contrast, you should persuade your audience to accept your explanations and the judgements of these two subjects (e.g. they should go to see the movie you prefer to see). You should develop your thesis by using either block or alternating pattern discussed in class.
This essay assignment will be evaluated and commented on with the following points:
Four distinctive points of comparison and contrast
A workable thesis that explicitly states the two subjects being compared and contrasted,as well as four distinctive points of comparison and contrast
Topic sentences for each paragraph with the use of specifics and examples to support the topic sentences
The effective use of either block or alternating pattern
The effective use of transitional words and phrases
Correctness of grammar, punctuation, and spelling
