n the “music and” assignments, you are asked to re-conceive of the unit in your own unique way. For example, in Unit 1: Music as Ritual we study music associated with religious ceremonies and courtship, however, there are many more rituals in which we all regularly partake and in which music plays a part (e.g. studying, exercising, etc.). You will select three songs and describe them using the musical elements learned in the course, and then write a brief essay (1–2 pages double-spaced) explaining how these three songs can provide a new understanding of the unit.
