In Canada, The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) conducts independent and impartial investigations into the personal information handling practices of businesses subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
PIPEDA applies to private-sector organizations across Canada that collect, use or disclose personal information in the course of commercial activity.
The objective of this homework is to familiarize yourself with a basic understanding of PIPEDA and its implications on private businesses in Canada. Furthermore, by reading the case study summaries of various investigations of violations of PIPEDA you reinforce your knowledge and understanding of the practicality of this Act in everyday life.
