This is what needs to be done: Please read the short text called Apology available on the following link (or the text you have purchased):
http://classics.mit.edu/Plato/apology.html
This short text is one of the cornerstones of Western thinking on living a virtuous life. In this text, Socrates explains how to live “an examined life” (Apology 38A).
As is well-known, he had to drink hemlock in view of the charges that were brought against him. He was the first martyr of truth!
For our first class, I invite you to read this text and be ready to discuss:
1. What were the two charges against Socrates?
2. Do you think they were justified. Why and why not?
3. If you were a part of the Jury that consisted of 501 people, how would you had voted: In favor of or against Socrates?
