Research Proposal
Students will choose a human communication based topic concerning a controversy, social issue, or other communicative phenomenon and craft a written argument using scholarly research to support their position. Students will need to support their argument with empirical research found in peer-reviewed scholarly journals (at least fifteen sources), using coherent, logical, carefully edited prose.  Students will also propose a method to study their position with empirical research.  Papers will be about 10-12 double-spaced pages.  The position paper will include the following phases:
IRB (Go to IRB on the UA website and do CITI non-medical training). You must supply the scores for EACH subarea.

Topic Proposal A 1-2 page proposal of a human communication research idea. This must come from the areas of interpersonal, small group, organizational, political, intercultural, health, etc. It cannot be a rhetorical or media/advertising topic. Consider the topics covered in Com 101, Com 220, etc. Make sure you clearly state the variables and relationship (s) you seek to investigate (3 sources minimum).

Intro and Lit Review (7 pages min.) due before midterm to get general feedback from the instructor (not including the abstract and references). This paper will require 12-15 sources from your selected topic, hopefully from your annotated bibliography, from peer-reviewed journal articles. You will use those sources in an integrated way to build on your research idea or position.
