For this assignment, you will get the chance to participate in real psychological research. Then, you’ll consider the purpose behind the research, as well as additional topics related to the research process.
Directions
Go to the Social Psychology Network (Links to an external site.) and, under either “Professional Research” or “Student Research,” choose “Interpersonal Relations.”
Choose a study that interests you and for which you are qualified. You will complete two studies total.
Be sure to read every aspect of the survey, including the introduction and any debriefing at the end. Complete the items, though actually submitting the data to the researchers at the end of the survey is optional.
Do the same for a second study.
For your paper, you should include the following things:study overview: What was the title of the study? Who were the researchers? (2.5 points per study, 5 points total)
purpose of the study: What do you believe the purpose of the study was? Be specific by speculating about what hypotheses the study might have been testing. (5 points per study, 10 points total)
description of measures and items: Describe some of the measures and items that you were asked to complete. What variables do you think these items are measuring? Think about some of the constructs we’ve been studying, such as attraction, love, commitment, mate preferences, and forgiveness. (5 points per study, 10 points total)
placement in textbook: Where in the textbook would the findings from this study likely be summarized? Be very specific, explaining how your study’s questions relate to specific material in the book. (5 points per study, 10 points total)
hypothesis and measures: If you were to conduct a study on this topic, what hypothesis would you want to test, and what types of measures would you include (beyond those already appearing in the surveys you took)? (5 points per study, 10 points total)
This paper should be three to four double-spaced pages (not including your title page). Complete the five listed sections for each of the two studies, one at a time, and number your answers (in other words, this paper should not be in paragraph form like the previous papers, since you will be numbering each section).
So, begin your paper with an APA-style title page. However, you will NOT need to give any citations in your paper, NOR any references at the end of this paper.
