Deviance and Crime Assignment
In this assignment, you’ll create a presentation. You may use PowerPoint or record a video and upload it to YouTube. Whatever media you select, your presentation must include the items below. A PowerPoint presentation should be limited to approximately 10 slides, and a video to 5 minutes. You may include narration with your PPT or put your script in the Notes pane for your instructor to review. If you choose to do a video, it should include audio (you onscreen or voiceover) and visual aids as appropriate.
In your video or PowerPoint:
1. Differentiate deviance and crime (2 points).
2. Analyze crime from each of the three major sociological perspectives– functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic interactionism (12 points).
· Briefly describe what each perspective considers the cause or source of crime.
· You may want to select a specific crime and explain that from each perspective, for a more focused approach.
3. Identify the theory you feel best explains the causes of crime today and explain why you chose this theory (3 points).
