In order to complete this lab, you will need the following link from OkCupid:
https://theblog.okcupid.com/tagged/data
Although it’s not the most scientific set of data, OkCupid’s blog does present some interesting information about romantic and sexual preferences while showing intersections with politics, geography, drug use, etc. in the process. You are going to choose 3 different blog posts to analyze and answer the following questions:
1) Please provide sample size of group analyzed along with demographic information (if provided) in the blog post.
2) What do the data say about OkCupid users?
3)Do you think you can extrapolate that data to larger populations? If so, who?
4) What data points surprised you in the 3 blog posts you selected and why?
Once you provide this information for all 3 posts, please answer the following questions:
5) What are your thoughts on dating sites surveilling their members’ usage for data purposes (OKCupid is hardly alone in this)?
6)Is data collection a better or worse justification for surveillance than profit? Does it matter that it’s a dating site and not, say, a simple search engine?
7) Any final thoughts on dating sites and how they contribute to family/relationship formation.
The write up of this lab should be anywhere between 2 and 4 double spaced pages.
Thank You!!!
