Taguchi’s definition of quality as ‘the loss imparted to society from the time a product has shipped’. From his perspective, his definition of perfect quality is a product that results in zero losses to the customer as a result of its delivery and usage – it perfectly fulfills the customer requirements. A company’s quality objective should be to minimize any losses that might result from the delivery and usage of their product by a customer.
